2025 Training Priorities

Some of the training priorities which were set for 2024 were not addressed as training was contingent on securing external funding or sponsorships. Nonetheless, these priorities continue to be very important for the Institute. Consequently, they have been included below among the priorities for 2025:

  • Consolidate and strengthen the development of online and virtual platforms for the delivery of professional teacher development programmes.
  • Continue with the emerging priorities of the DBE and those of the provincial education
departments (PEDs). 2024 was the third and final year of the TUC programme on the
development of “skills for a challenging world.” At this point, we do not know if the DBE will support any professional teacher development initiatives during 2025.
  • Expand training of members on Assessment for Learning as one of the DBE’s espoused
priorities for the South African education system.
  • Encourage the establishment of professional learning communities (PLCs).
  • Coordinate and/or conduct workshops on Alternatives to Corporal Punishment.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct workshops on Psycho-social Support to deepen and broaden members’ understanding and develop teachers’ repertoire of skills to deal with challenges related to the psycho-social wellbeing of both teachers and learners at school.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct workshops on Data Use and School Improvement Planning.
  • Conduct workshops on Proposal Writing for members wishing to enroll for master’s and doctoral studies.
  • Explore possibilities of a ‘third-stream’ income generation to supplement union funding and sponsored programmes.
  • Explore prospects for new collaborations with other stakeholders in the education sector to broaden the scope of training available to members.
  • Utilise the Skills Development Levy funds for training of members as advised by the Central Executive Board (CEB).
