Sibusiso Victor Malinga

Mr. Sibusiso Victor Malinga is a dedicated educator and union leader with a longstanding commitment to advancing teachers’ rights and educational development in South Africa. His career in union structures spans decades, reflecting a progressive rise through grassroots and leadership roles within NATU.

He began his service as a School Building Representative (SBR), where he advocated for local educators and addressed on-site issues. He advanced to Branch Chairperson of the Greytown Branch, overseeing union activities and member support. He was later elected Regional Chairperson for the Pietermaritzburg Region, focusing on broader coordination and policy implementation across multiple branches.

Mr. Malinga was elected Vice President for Structures and Development in 2018, with responsibility for organizational structures and developmental initiatives. He then served as Acting President in 2022, following the passing of President Sikhumbuzo Alan Thompson, and led the union through a transitional period.

He was elected President at the 2022 National Elective Conference, guiding the union through key challenges in education policy and labour rights. He was re-elected President at the 2025 National Elective Conference, continuing his mandate to strengthen NATU’s influence and support for teachers nationwide.

Mr. Malinga has been instrumental in building NATU’s organizational structures, promoting professional development for educators, and negotiating on behalf of members in areas such as salary improvements, working conditions, and educational reforms. His leadership emphasizes unity, inclusivity, and sustainable growth within the teaching profession.

Known for his hands-on approach and deep roots in grassroots activism, Mr. Malinga embodies the ethos of service and resilience in South Africa’s education sector. He continues to inspire emerging leaders within NATU.
